![]() Maybe the company did the best they could with what they charged you and what they have to deal with currently in this country with the absolutely insane moving conditions. I don’t work for PackRat, but I don’t see why this is such a dramatic “Buyer Beware” situation. You would’ve probably paid roughly the same amount or a touch more to have the whole job done for you.Įither way you got inconvenienced for a week and some cash. I know because I work at a moving company. An 8x8 (x8 high I’m guessing) roughly 500 cubic feet of stuff is a small move, so it would’ve definitely been on a shared truck. Since you didn’t add any damage to your complaint.Ī moving company would’ve probably taken at least as long to get your stuff there. You got everything in one piece I’m guessing. I guess I am more patient than most of the people that write these posts. We were promised it would be in FL by 7/1. TLDR: Had an 8x8’ PackRat ($4K) that was picked up full in NY on 6/24. However, we paid a company a lot of money to aid us during a huge transition and they abandoned us. I understand there are bigger, more dire problems on this planet. Looking at some complaints on Twitter, it seems that we were the lucky ones. The pod did eventually arrive on 7/8 at 7:30am. At this point, we knew that our stuff might not get here till August, and we cannot stay in the hotel indefinitely. We figured it would probably be less $ to spend at Walmart than it would being in a hotel for another 5+ days. Many ask why we didn't just check back into the hotel. We go to Walmart at 10pm and load up our cart with stuff we would never need to buy if the container had arrived when promised. We have no mattresses, no sheets, no towels, nothing. What? They decide to give us our $500 back and $50/day every day they're late, because we didn't go completely psycho on the phone like we wanted to. They regret to inform us that they will not have our container delivered until 7/8. ![]() Now they have thousands AND all of our things, save what's in our overnight suitcases. And believe me, they KNOW why we are calling that late at night and refusing to get off hold: WE WANT OUR STUFF! You took $4k off of our credit card the second we booked the damn thing in May. We wait till 8pm and get on the phone with PackRat. ![]() We were mainly very excited about having a new home after 25 years in the old one.ħ/2 rolls around, we check out of our lovely hotel and wait around all day in our empty house. Okay, not what we had planned or been told initially, but we'll have to manage. We confirmed with PackRat over web chat that our container would be delivered on 7/2. We had paid for expedited shipping ($100/day each day early, so 5 days early is $500 extra on top of roughly $4K). We anticipated our container arriving on 7/1, the latest. Once we hit West Palm Beach on 6/27, we stayed in a nice, large hotel room so we could hang out with our pets before moving into our new home.Ĭlosing was smooth and successful. We decided to drive about 6-8 hours each stretch, as we had time to kill before our closing date on 6/29. Our pets came with us of course, a hamster and a cockatiel. We broke up our trips into 3 stops (Maryland, North Carolina, and Georgia). Not horrendous, at least they came that day as promised. The full PackRat sat there until almost 10pm and blocked their moving truck. Our buyers came to move in within minutes us leaving. The empty PackRat arrived first thing on 6/21. Decided to go with a 8x8 foot container with PackRat, what's really the difference? We had no idea what was going to happen. We initially wanted a POD but they were all sold out in our timeframe, as there is this moving frenzy post-quarantine with the hot housing market. We were not going to have movers, as we are downsizing and in good health. My parents (67M+F) and I (32F) sold our house in Long Island, NY and were set to close on a villa in West Palm Beach, FL.
